Introduction

Energy consumption accounts for nearly 80% of the man-made CO 2 emissions worldwide, and there is considerable scope to use energy more efficiently in its production, distribution and end uses. Measures to increase energy efficiency therefore have the potential to contribute significantly to global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and many can be achieved at negative net cost.
