Wrapping up the Bonn Climate Talks
12 April 2010
[Bonn, Germany, 11th April 2010] An on-demand webcast is available featuring a briefing in Bonn hosted by Climate Action Network, assessing the outcome of this weekend’s three day inter-sessional UNFCCC meeting. Speakers review the past three days of talks, the first since Copenhagen, and preview the upcoming calendar for 2010.
The webcast is available for viewing here.
Wael Maidan, IndyACT:
“To be or not to be – that is the question on the Copenhagen Accord. This weekend’s discussions did not manage to reach any conclusion on how the Copenhagen Accord will fit in with the existing, long- standing negotiating processes.”
“We’re calling for transparency from the UNFCCC with regard to the Accord. Let’s get some resolution on this issue so we can all get on with our real work – saving people and the climate.”
Kathrinn Gutmann, WWF:
“Everyone agrees that after the failure of Copenhagen to produce a fair, ambitious and legally binding treaty, the UNFCCC process needs revamping.”
“By using a slightly different approach, one that teases the easily solvable issues away from the more difficult ones, it WILL be possible to produce the text of an agreement in time for Cancun. This is the kind of revitalization we are now calling for.”
NGO experts on the panel include:
Wael Maidan, IndyACT and Kathrin Gutmann, WWF.
