Introduction
The Climate Technologies Assessment Project has been an effort by
Climate Action Network Europe to bring analysis to these early days
of the debate on CCS and hydrogen, to try to facilitate development
of NGO positions on the various issues. The project has yielded
14 technical papers on the various technologies covered, hosted
two workshops, allowed participation in various forums at which
relevant findings have been presented, and spurred debate within
the NGO community that is still gaining momentum.
Workshops
Two workshops were held on the technical aspects and the policy
and environmental implications of CO2 capture and storage, hydrogen
and fuel cell technologies.
1. The technical aspects of CO2 capture & storage, hydrogen
& fuel cells
23 – 24 September 2003, Brussels
The workshop covered each technology, informed attendees about the
technologies, and established a bridge from technical to policy
considerations by generating issues for further consideration and
indicating directions for policy research
2. The policy and environmental implications of CO2 capture and
storage, hydrogen and fuel cell technologies
27 – 28 May 2004, Brussels
The workshop featured representatives from industry, government
and NGOs, and focused on many of the hard policy questions surrounding
the issues.
Technology Papers
A series of technical information papers were prepared for the project.
These assessments summarised the key information about the technologies
in question and served as technical resources and background information
to assist policy discussion.
Final Report
The final report of the Climate Technologies Assessment Project
(CTAP) summarizes some of the key hopes and concerns NGOs have with
respect to CCS and hydrogen technologies, based on the information
gathered through the CTAP project. The report can be found here:
